*Ví dụ:

Yesterday at 8 p.m, I was playing basketball with my dad và my brother. (Lúc 8 giờ buổi tối qua tôi đang đùa bóng rổ với cha và anh trai tôi)

Ngoài ra, thì thừa khứ tiếp nối còn được dùng trong những trường hợp sau:

2. Cấu trúc của thì quá khứ tiếp diễn

a) Câu khẳng định

S + was/ were + V_ing….

Chú ý:

I, She, He, It, Danh tự số ít	was
You, We, They, Danh từ số nhiều	were

*Ví dụ:

Chú ý: was not = wasn’t

were not = weren’t

*Ví dụ:

She wasn’t taking an English test.They weren’t fixing their computer.Thinh was not talking about it before I arrived.c) thắc mắc nghi vấn

→ không có từ nhằm hỏi:

Was/ Were + S + V_ing…?

Yes, S + be. / No, S + be not

*Ví dụ:

→ tất cả từ để hỏi:

*Ví dụ:

3. Cách dùng thì quá khứ tiếp diễn

Cách dùng	Ví dụ
Diễn tả một hành vi nào này đã và đang xẩy ra tại một thời điểm rõ ràng trong thừa khứ.	Jun Pham was watching TV at 10 pm last night. (Vào 10 giờ buổi tối qua, Jun Phạm đã xem ti vi.)
Diễn tả những hành động xảy ra đồng thời cùng 1 thời điểm trong thừa khứ	Hoang was listening lớn music while his father was washing his car in the yard. (Hoàng đang nghe nhạc khi bố anh ấy rửa xe ô tô ngoài sân.)
Diễn tả một hành vi đang xẩy ra thì tất cả một hành vi khác xen vào, hành vi đang diễn ra sẽ chia ở thì quá khứ tiếp diễn	I were waiting for the bus when Ha came. (Tôi đang đợi xe buýt lúc Hà đến.)
Diễn tả một hành vi lặp đi lặp lại nhiều lần trong vượt khứ và nó có tác dụng phiền đến tín đồ khác	My neighbor was always playing music all day. (Hàng làng mạc của tôi luôn luôn luôn mở nhạc cả ngày.

4. Vết hiệu phân biệt thì thừa khứ tiếp diễn

Trong câu ở thì vượt khứ tiếp diễn sẽ mở ra các trạng tự chỉ thời hạn trong quá khứ cố nhiên với thời gian cụ thể, như:

At + tiếng + thời hạn trong quá khứ	Lúc…giờ…vào… Ví dụ: at 5 o’clock yesterday (vào 5 giờ đồng hồ ngày hôm qua)
At this time + thời gian trong vượt khứ	Vào thời điểm đó ở… Ví dụ: at this time last year (vào giờ đồng hồ này năm ngoái).
In + năm trong quá khứ	Vào năm…. Ví dụ: In 2002…

B. Những để ý khi làm bài xích tập thì vượt khứ tiếp diễn

1. Kiêng nhầm lẫn thì quá khứ tiếp nối và thì vượt khứ đơn

Ví dụ:

When I came in, she was singing in her bathroom.

2. Đừng quên tobe hoặc thiếu thốn đuôi _ing

Lỗi đơn giản dễ dàng nhưng lại thường gặp mặt nhất ở bài xích tập về thì tiếp nối nói chung, thì vượt khứ tiếp diễn nói riêng là quên tobe hoặc cồn từ thiếu thốn đuôi _ing.
